"Vicious Servant" is the second album of dark ambient project Achondar, who take a part of their inspirations from video games. As they say themselves ""Vicious Servant" serves as an "alternate soundtrack" and is a tribute album to a classic 1998 French cinematic platformer, Heart of Darkness. Eight pieces that comprise the record are meant to complement the game's levels and they underline their menacing, dangerous and evil nature. The album is dedicated to the memory of Christian Robert, the art director of Heart of Darkness responsible for the game's memorable and beautiful visual design, who sadly passed away in 2010."
But obviously the album can also be enjoyed by people who aren't into games. The 8 tracks of "Vicious Servant" take us into different mysterious places : foggy, chtonian, ethereal, with enough contrasts between them to sustain your attention without losing their atmospheric coherence.

Produced over the course of Summer 2014, „Vicious Servant” is the unofficial alternate soundtrack to 1998’s classic game, Heart of Darkness. Heart of Darkness was Eric Chahi’s next incredibly ambitious project following Another World, the first cinematic action-adventure game ever that proved to be immensely popular and influential at the time of its release. Chahi set out to top Another World in every aspect – it was no longer a solo effort, Amazing Studio was formed to finish this daunting task. The animation was to match or even surpass Disney’s best works. Heart of Darkness was to feature the first orchestral soundtrack written for a video game ever and Bruce Broughton was hired to compose the score. Due to numerous delays, however, other games with orchestral music beat Heart of Darkness to the storefronts. Heart of Darkness is a story of a boy named Andy who loves his dog friend, Whiskey, hates his teacher and most of all – fears of the dark. During one unfortunate evening Whiskey is kindapped by the dark forces led by the evil Master of Darkness ruling the twisted Darklands and Andy sets out to rescue his buddy. Despite rather child-friendly premise and appearance the game is infamous for its dark atmosphere and disturbingly violent death scenes.
The official soundtrack composed by the illustrious Bruce Broughton accompanies the cinematics; the actual game does not feature any music apart from short cues signaling incoming danger or completion of certain puzzles. The Achondar Tribe wanted to fill that gap and thus composed 52 minutes worth of dark ambient music that reflects the dark and menacing atmosphere of each of game’s 8 levels. The Darklands are no safe and friendly place – murky, twisted soundscapes and bizzare percussion (courtesy of our Rakalingus) illustrate the fantasy land ruled by the evil sorcerer.
